How was your week? I had a great Zoom call with a bunch of friends the other day, one of whom told me she met someone who claimed to have traced her ancestry back to Jesus! That would be a serious accomplishment. This isn’t the first time I’ve heard a story like that. What historical figures have you heard that people say they’re descended from??

There’s a new TV Show - The Genetic Detective. Have you have heard about this? I’m not totally sure how I feel about it, but I’ll probably tune in to see what it’s all about.

How to find your ancestor’s death records.

What really happened to the 1890 census?

Genealogy can help you through a crisis.

A genealogist uses DNA to identify a WWII POW.

This book looks really interesting - Practical Genealogy: 50 Simple Steps to Research Your Diverse Family History.

And so does this one - Family Tree Workbook: 30+ Step-by-Step Worksheets to Build Your Family History. I love finding new genealogy charts and sheets to try out.

Can you get rid of unidentified family photos?

Document your day-to-day for future generations.

25 fun things to do while sheltering in place. I’ve been loving the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s live cams. So peaceful.

Share stories of your mementos with family.

How to use Alien Registration Files in your research. I actually requested the A-Files for 3 of my grandparents from the San Bruno NARA right when the shutdown happened. Hopefully I can get copies by this summer. I did manage to get one for a friend in time. It was very short but gave the great clue that his great grandfather had served for decades in the Mexican calvary, so I’ll be searching for those records next! I highly recommend checking out A-Files.

I finally finished scanning my binders of genealogy documents and backed them up in the cloud on a flash drive

Time to catch up on reading for fun

The sun came back out

My succulents are blooming

Do you have any other fun links from the week to share? What are you grateful for this week?
